What Is an Air Handler?

An air handler unit, or AHU, is used to regulate and circulate air as part of an HVAC system. Most generally, an air handler is a large metal box that contains the following: a blower, heating and/or cooling elements, filter racks, sound attenuators, and dampers. Air handlers are generally connected to some type of ductwork ventilation. The ductwork ventilation system distributes the conditioned air throughout your home and returns air to the AHU.
