Boilers

What Is a Boiler?

A boiler is a closed vessel where water is heated, but the fluid does not necessarily boil. Basically, the heated fluid leaves the boiler for use in many heating processes including central heating.

In a hot water system, the water is heated by the boiler to around 180 degrees. Then a circulator moves water through pipes leading to baseboard heaters, radiant tubing, or radiators. In a steam system, the boiler turns the water into steam, which then rises through the pipes to the radiators.

What You Need to Know about Boilers

Boilers have a few advantages over your gas or electric furnaces. Two of the main advantages are silence and comfort. Silence is the norm with this type of heating system. If there is a bubbling or hissing sound, you probably need to have your system checked out. Boilers provide the most comfortable heat due to the heat being even. Floor heat makes everything in the room warm, even your feet. Another great advantage is that boilers don’t blow dust or other allergens. In this day and age where so many people suffer from allergies, this is a bonus in itself.

Having a boiler is a more expensive option, and they do not provide a cooling method to a home, but if you weigh the pros and cons, the boiler may be just what you are looking for.
